Electromagnetic Field
What is EMF?
There are hundreds of theories surrounding this subject. EMF or electromagnetic field is the invisible field that surrounds any electrical device. Power lines, electrical outlets, cell phones, alarm clocks, and anything that runs off of eletricity will have an EM field surrounding it. There are also several other things, including those that are naturally accuring that can give off EM. I'm just going to focus on a basic understanding of it today. Electric fields are produced by voltage and as the voltage increases so does the strength of the electric field. This field strength is measured in volts per meter (V/m). Magnetic fields come from the flow of current through wires or electrical devices. As the current increases so does the strength of the magnetic field. This is measured in units of gauss (G) or tesla (T). As long as an item is plugged into an eletrical source it will give off an electric field. However, in order to give off a magnetic field the item must be turned on or have currant running through it.
Certain materials that conduct electricity even things such as buildings, trees, and humans can sheild or weaken an electrical field, but magnetic fields can pass through most materials making them harder to shield. Both fields decrease rapidly the further away from the source you go.
So how do we use this to "detect" ghost? The human brain is comprised mostly of electrical pulses and since energy can neither be created or distroyed, it stands to reason that after death the eletrical pulses are simply redistributed. The theory is that spirits are comprised of electricty and since the EMF detector detects electrical fields, its possible that a random eletrical field, without a source, could possilbly be the sign of a spirit manifesting.
It is also possible that long term exposure to high EMF fields could have side effects. These can include nausea, fatigue, paranoia, the feeling of being watched, headaches, halucinations, and many others. These symptoms can basically mimic a haunting. The best way to determine the difference is to find the source of the high EMF and remove it. If after some time the symptoms do not go away, then there's a good possibilty that it may be a haunting that is the source of the problem and not the high EMF.
For more information on how the brain's EM field can survive death a great
book to check out is "the electromagnetic origins of life" by Dr. Becker.
