Hollywood Cemetery
Located just a little over an hour away from me, Hollywood Cemetery is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I've ever visited. It is full of history, from civil war memorials to presidential graves. It is a place I like to visit often for a relaxing walk and lesson in local history. There's even rumored to be a vampire living there. There are several claims of activity and lore surrounding this place. One story includes that of a little girl. The story says that she used to visit a service station often with her father. In front of this service station was a large iron dog. She would stand outside and talk to the statue while her father was in the store. The little girl died in a tragic accident very young and the owner of the service station donated the iron dog to be placed on the girls grave. The legend says that if you bother the dog or the girls grave that the dog will come for you that night. I was doing an EVP session at the little girls grave once, an I ask if she would like to play, once I reviewed the audio, I had a little girl playfully laughing. There is also a very large pyramid that was built as a monument to the civil war soldiers. On that same visit, I did an EVP session there as well, and I recieved a very clear response. I asked if any of the soldiers had a message for their families and I recieved the answer, I just want to go home. Upon further research of the monument, I learned that the monument was built on a mass grave of unknown soldiers that were believed to be mostly union soldiers. So it would make perfect since that they would want to go home. This is a beautiful place to visit with many picturesque scenes. I would love to do a night time investigation there, however they lock the gates at 5pm and I am respectful of their requests to stay out after dark. If you would like to check it out for yourself and read some of the facinating history of the place their website is www.hollywoodcemetery.org.
