Sorrel-Weed House, Savannah GA

Savannah is a town known to be built upon its own dead. There is no shortage of haunted places in this town. One of the more active places seems to be the Sorrel-Weed house. There are several spirits here including Mr. Sorrel, Mrs. Sorrel, several children and revolutionary soldiers. There is a large mirror in one of the drawing rooms that many visitors have caught compelling images of a woman in. In the ladies parlor there have been images of a child captured on tour photos. There is the spirit of a revolutionary soldier in the basement and a shadow figure that paces back and forth. During renovations a few years ago in the basement they unearthed the remains of what appeared to be 12 revolutionary soldiers. They identified them from the pieces of uniform that was also found with the bones. Accounts of Mrs. Sorrel's death is still up for debate. She fell from the third floor balcony, some say it was from a fit of jealous rage after catching her husband with one of the maids, others say she was pushed by Mr. Sorrel himself. One of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary war in Savannah was fought on the very land that the house now occupies and there are stories of ghostly guards still keeping watch. My personal experience happened in the basement. I felt a tugging on the bottom of my pant leg just before the guide told us about the children who like to play hide and seek and grab people by the ankles as a form of tag. This place is well worth a visit if you ever make it to the beautiful city of Savannah. https://sorrelweedhouse.com/
