Ghost Hunters Do It In the Dark....But Why?
The question always seems to come up, if ghosts are always around, why do you only investigate at night. It's true, spirits are around us all the time, not just when the lights go out. However, there are several advantages to waiting until the lights go out to investigate. I'll try to explain some of those advantages below.
Electrical interference:
Being able to go dark or shut off the breakers, helps to not confuse the equipment or give us false readings. Getting a spike on our EMF meters is more credible if the electicity is turned off. Although there could be other explanations for it, we can feel confident that the 30 year old alarm clock in the bedroom is not one of them if the power is off. It also means that we will not get false hot spots or drafts caused by air conditioning or heating units coming on.
Night Vision:
Using cameras that can read infrared (nightvision) can help to bring out details in a spectrum of vision we don’t possess. It’s believed that in the infrared spectrum we might find something that has trouble showing itself in the human eye’s range. Also, during the day, the light can cast shadows that aren't as easily explainable as they are at night. During the day there are hundreds of light sources that could explain the shadow on the wall. However, at night, when you have the only controlled light source, you can more easily determine where the shadow is being cast from and figure out if there's a normal explanation or a paranormal one. Also with the lact of a visual spetrum, your senses are hightened, much like those of a blind person. Helping you to be more receptive to any visual or audio anomolies.
Less Interference:
Night time is usually when the rest of the world sleeps. Therefore, there is less interference from outside sources. Generally there is less trafic, no children playing in yards, and just less activity in general. This creates a quieter surrounding for doing your EVP work and contributes to less contamination of your audio. Also there is the theory that it's the time when spirits feel more comfortable coming out in the open. Once all of the commotion of everyday life has calmed down, they feel free to roam as they may, without interference from the living.
Conveniance:
Most of us work day jobs and its just not possible to take several day off to do an investigation, most of us only have our nights and weekends to do such. Also the clients usually work day jobs as well and can't take the time off to let us into the house. With many of the business calls we get, they are not willing to close during the day for an investiagion, but once they close at night, we have the place to ourselves.
